Frequently Asked Questions

How old do I have to be to participate in Salon Society of Chicago Events?

  • We ask that all formal ball attendees be 15 or older. Anyone under 18 is asked to bring a chaperone with them. Per federal guidelines, anyone who is drinking is required to be 21+ or 18+ in active military.

How “good” does my outfit have to be?

  • We ask that everyone who comes to an event make a good faith attempt to follow the guidelines for the ball. You are welcome to wear purchased goods, and Salon Society is against gate keeping and bullying. If you are bullied for what you are wearing, please let Salon Society of Chicago know by sending an email to salonsocietyofchicago@gmail.com

What if I’m a beginner?

  • That’s ok! We ask that you do your best. No one will be turned at the door for bad sewing.

Do I have to wear a costume?

  • This is in fact a costuming event, and we do ask that everyone do a good faith attempt to try to follow the dress code.

How do I volunteer?

  • We love volunteers and offer full admittance to a ball for 2 hours of volunteering on the day of the ball. Please send an email to salonsocietyofchicago@gmail.com to ask if there are any spots. Please keep in mind that volunteer spots are highly sought and often fill fast.

Can I be banned from Salon Society of Chicago?

  • Event planners have full discretion on removal of attendees for poor behavior, and repeat or multiple offenses can result in a ban from all SSC activities.

Do you offer refunds?

  • Regardless of the number of people that show up for a ball or event, caterers, musicians, performance artists, teachers, and venues must be paid. Because of this, no refunds are allowed. However, you are welcome to sell your ticket. Just give the person the new QR code as well as the name on the ticket, so that we can let them into the venue on the day. Thank you for understanding.
